CPU Coolers for a high-end

VapoChill Micro

The company has Vapochill widely known throughout the world. Its cooling system is deservedly enjoy wide popularity among overclockers and PC enthusiasts. This is especially true of water cooling systems, and cryogenic systems. It is because of the latter, at the mention of the word Vapochill, overclockers and sigh heavily immersed in dreams of transcendent frequencies. For the cryogenic systems provide the best cooling performance, and easy to keep the temperature of each CPU (load) in the 0 . And because the company offers similar products Vapochill since 2000, the many enthusiasts of the word “cryogenic system” and Vapochill become almost synonymous. This also contributed to the fact that numerous records acceleration and performance (for example, in SuperPI and 3Dmark) systems have been installed by Vapochill.

In addition to the cryogenic system, the company also offers a water cooling system. On the effectiveness of cryogenic cooling they are worse, but they have a lower cost, easier to install and use. And from a marketing standpoint, they are much more profitable, because number of potential buyers is much greater than the supporters of the extreme cooling.

But the number of buyers conventional cooling systems even more. Therefore, in Vapochill decided, using the advertised brand, to launch a regular cooler with a more or less conventional design.

And in 2005, Vapochill released the Micro , which very quickly got into our test lab.

The cooler is packed into a fairly large plastic box:

In it, apart from the cooler, we found the fan speed controller, wires to it, as well as a brief installation guide.

The controller is located on the bracket, which is installed in place of an expansion card. Thats just embarrassing that as a result of the handle (metal, very soft to the touch) is located at the rear of the chassis. As a rule, many manufacturers offer coolers also 3 “panel

on the front side of the body.

Also attached to the cooler kit for mounting on the motherboard with socket LGA775. The same cooler is used for other popular systems (such as, AMD Socket939 and Socket754); which included fan is a different kind of attachment:

In addition, together with the cooler we got 2 more fans, which is equipped with a model VapoChill Micro. One of the fans (Silent Fan) is designed for lovers of peace, the other (High End Fan) – provides

optimal ratio of “shumeffektivnost.”

A few words about the fans. Full-time fan (Extreme Performance Fan) has a rotational speed of 3800 RPM, creates an air flow of 73.656 CFM and noise 39dBa (in our opinion, this figure is too low). The second fan (High End Fan) also rotates at a speed of 3800 RPM, but the air flow generated below – 67.0 CFM, as well as noise – 35dBa. The quietest of fans called the Silent Fan; it rotates at a speed of 2350 RPM, creates a flow of only 17.657 CFM. But it can operate almost silently.

Using three fans has led to what Vapochill sells three separate product. And from a user perspective is better to take a cooler with a more powerful fan, since it is possible to change the speed using the knob, which is included (or by using functions

the motherboard).

Now look at the cooler:

Briefly, its structure can be described as follows: base of the cooler is a hemisphere, which gradually becomes a “T”-shaped tube. From “T”-shaped pipe, depart three vertical tubes, which are strung on a large number of aluminum plates. Go back to the design of the radiator. It is not hard to guess that the hemispherical base of the cooler and tubes, hollow inside, and they are low-boiling material (specifically – the gas with a terrible symbol R134a).

In other words, this “heat pipes” that are currently used in most high-end cooling systems. However, the main difference between the cooler VapoChill Micro from other products, is the thickness of the tubes:

more than a centimeter in diameter (to be precise – 13mm)! Accordingly, the gas inside them is much larger, and hence they work more efficiently!.

Another important technical point – the design of a hemispherical base. It is also hollow inside, and there is also a working substance. And it separates from the processor only a very thin layer of copper. Engineers carefully Vapochill emphasize this fact, which should improve the efficiency of the system compared with other products. We note another interesting feature – from the base of the heatsink sticks sealed “nose”, with which, inside the download was a gas.

A few words about the size and weight of the cooler. Despite a considerable height, the cooler without any problems

installed on any motherboard. Such is made possible thanks to a round bottom,

that allows you to rotate the cooler 360 degrees (about the vertical axis), and thus, to put it

in the most optimal position. As for weight, compared with other popular products

hes just a feather, weighing only 278gr (355gr and with the fan installed).

With regard to the installation of the cooler on the motherboard, it is very easy for both LGA775,

and for the AMD-systems. In particular, when installing LGA775, you need to install the cooler, along with mounting frame

the socket, and snap the four turns lock (optional turning every 90 degrees). Removing the cooler

also does not cause difficulties – turn tabs back to 90 degrees, and remove the cooler. As promised

Online Vapochill, installation takes 30 seconds (withdrawal – even faster).

Now its time to talk about the fan, and quite unseemly pattern of attachment.

Thus, the radiator put on a transparent plastic cover which is fixed to the heat sink only through

its shape. In addition to the platform for fan, this case serves as a duct, which

generates an air stream. In this case, using the small plastic pins mounted 92mm fan.

And the pins continuously strive to slip out of the hole and get lost. In a word

this design gives the impression of “collective farm” (with all due respect to the rural people :)

and we definitely did not like.

It should also be noted that in the scope of the cooler is only one set of fasteners on one platform.

And to install the cooler on a different platform, you must either seek to sell its own set

fasteners, or run to the store and ask to change the cooler.

The preliminary conclusion about the cooler was very, very positive. The design of the radiator

made it clear that the efficiency of heat dissipation from the processor will be fantastic,

a significant air flow fan gave us hope that with the heat sink

will not be worse. And, as we thought, the cooler will ensure the withdrawal of more than 150Vatt energy

What promised to developers. Moreover, due to promoted brand Vapochill, we

were in full assurance of an unconditional victory over the rest of the cooler

air-cooling systems. But the first test results have plunged a shock ….
